This visa allows parents of an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen to be reunited with their children in Australia. There are no working rights with this visa.
The applicant of Subclass 870 must have an approved sponsor in Australia to be granted with this visa.

Sponsoring your Partner’s parents
Your partner must also be an Australia citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen if you are sponsoring your partner’s parents.
To pass the income test, the sponsor’s taxable income for the most recent completed taxable income year prior to the date of lodgement of the sponsorship application must be at least to or greater than AUD83,454.80.
If you cannot pass the income test, you can combine your taxable income with your partner and/or another child of the visa applicant who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. If combining the income, the taxable income must be at least 50% of the taxable income amount specified to pass the income test.
