Student 500 Student

This visa allows the visa holder to study in an eligible course of study in Australia.

What are some of the common requirements for this visa?

Genuine Temporary Entrant

The applicant for a student visa must show that they are a genuine student and that their main purpose of the application is to study in Australia. The applicant is required to provide a Genuine Student Statement (GS).

The Department of Home Affairs must be satisfied that you genuinely intend to temporarily stay in Australia for the purpose of studying.

The GS criteria require the applicant to answer the following questions:

  • Give details of current circumstances. This includes ties to family, community, employment, and economic circumstances.
  • Explain why the applicant wishes to study this course in Australia with this particular education provider. This must also explain their understanding of the requirements of the intended course and studying and living in Australia.
  • Explain how completing the course will be of benefit to the applicant.
  • Give details of any other relevant information the applicant would like to include.

Answers must be written in English, with a maximum of 150 words per question.

The decision maker will assess different factors including:

  • Your personal circumstances in your home country;
  • Incentives to return home;
  • The relationship of the course to your future plans;
  • Your immigration history, study, and employment history;
  • Any other matters that can be considered in your visa application.

Our team at Sunshine Migration Group can assist you to prepare your GS statement. We will assess your personal circumstances and provide you with advice about which documents you should prepare.
